Cranberries

‘Tis the season for Christmas cookies! My pinterest boards are a flurry of activity and there are some many cookies I want to make.

My family’s traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas cookie is the cranberry nut bar. They’re delicious, easy, and unique. Our recipe is pretty similar to this one from the New York Times. I did Thanksgiving with my boyfriend’s family for the first time this year, and these were my humble contribution to the meal. They’re pretty rich, so a batch goes a long way–NOT that I can’t eat a substantial amount on my own. Double the recipe for a 13×9 pan.

Jam filled butter cookies. Not too sweet, made with homemade (not by me) jam from local strawberries. Super simple, I kind of made them by accident one night because the oven was already on.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies. I’m making these. Tonight. What’s not to like?

On the savory front, we had venison chili this week with meat from a friend’s recent hunting trip. A boyfriend creation, and I think it turned out really well. It was my first experience with game meat, and it does take a little getting used to. I added quinoa because it’s my new favorite.

Most recent and amazing, these mini bbq cheddar meatloaves from IowaGirlEats. So fantastic I actually have no words. Amazing fresh, delicious leftovers because you get melty cheese all over again when you warm them up. We had these with kale sautéed with some garlic and chicken broth. The roommate actually begged for our leftovers–win!
